Mercedes-Benz | Mercedes-AMG Click to rate this post[Total: 1 Average: 5]Mercedes-AMG has presented the new colors of its GT R safety car and C63 S Estate medical car for the 2021 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The two cars feature a new red paintwork, corresponding to the Affalterbach brand’s signature color, and display the name of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team partner CrowdStrike. Sharing the safety tasks with the Aston Martin Vantage safety car, which will hit the track at the season opener on March 28 at the Gulf Bahrain Grand Prix, the GT R will debut on April 18, at the second round of the F1 World Championship in Imola, with AMG’s Brand Ambassador and Driving Academy instructor Bernd Maylander at the helm. “In all the years my safety cars have never let me down. This exemplary reliability is also a fundamental safety factor. The high race track performance thrills me over and again. I am delighted that I am continuing to drive the FIA Safety Car and in this season it will be even more interesting, not just because of the new color”, said Maylander, who has been driving the FIA F1’s safety cars since 2000. The GT R, which features the AMG Track Package with roll-over protection and ceramic brakes, has no mechanical changes. Thus, the twin-turbo V8 still produces 577 HP (585 PS / 430 kW), allowing it to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in seconds from a standstill and reach a maximum speed of 198 mph (318 km/h). With Alan van der Merwe behind the wheel, the C63 S Estate medical car will carry medics to the scene of an accident as quickly as possible. It retains the stock engine, producing 503 HP (510 PS / 375 kW), and has the optional ceramic brakes and four individual racing seats inside with four-point seat belts. In addition to the carbon fiber roof light bar, both cars have two additional screens inside, one that broadcasts the race and a second one that shows the current track position of the racers on a graphic.
Just in time for the returning 2020 Formula 1 season, Mercedes-AMG's GT R F1 safety car is brandishing a united aura. In accordance with Formula 1's recent #WeRaceAsOne and #Drive Safely campaign, the new safety car is symbolizing unity against racism and inequality. For the past 25 years, Mercedes-AMG's F1 safety car is usually dressed in a silver and black ensemble. But for F1's return at the Austrian Grand Prix this coming July 5, Mercedes-AMG came up with something more colorful and livelier for worldwide fans to enjoy. Showing its commitment to fighting racial inequality and social injustice, the new F1 safety car is peppered with rainbow graphics to support the cause. The rainbow theme is visible on the rear flanks of the vehicle. Additionally, you'll find the #DriveSafely graphic on the hood along with #PurposeDriven on the roof and tailgate. The latter is shown to promote the FIA's commitment to safety, sustainability, diversity, and gender equality. This new theme is also applied to the official Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Estate emergency vehicle. but aside from a new paint scheme, both vehicles remain essentially unchanged from a technical and mechanical perspective. The Mercedes-AMG GT R F1 safety car, in particular, remains motivated by a twin-turbocharged V8 producing 585 horsepower and a mammoth 520 pound-feet of torque, effectively making it the most powerful F1 safety car in history. It may be a safety car, but it can rush to blinding speed when provoked. According to Mercedes-AMG, the GT R F1 safety car accelerates to 60 mph in around and has a top speed of 197 mph. This is hardly surprising given a stock Mercedes-AMG GT R once held the Nurburgring lap record in 2016. It clocked 7: minutes and made it the fastest road-going car to conquer the 'Ring. Of course, that record has since been surpassed, but it speaks highly of the GT R's propensity for speed. But to meet FIA requirements of becoming Formula 1's official safety car, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is tuned to maintain a higher minimum speed. Mercedes did it using sophisticated aero trickery, advanced lightweight construction, and a robust chassis. You can catch a glimpse of Formula 1's refreshed Mercedes-AMG safety car at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, July 5th. It will be driven by German racing driver Bernd Mayländer who's been doing so for the past 20 years.
Mercedes-AMG GT R Reliability Rating As with many low-volume, high-priced performance cars, the AMG GT has not been evaluated by the IIHS or the NHTSA, but Mercedes has a brilliant reputation for building safe cars, and the same should hold true when it comes to the GT's crash structure. US NHTSA Crash Test Result NHTSA safety ratings are not available at this time. 2020 AMG GT R Key Safety Features The AMG GT R is decidedly light on active safety features. Standard features include eight airbags, a three-stage electronic stability program, traction control, tire-pressure monitoring, LED headlamps and daytime running lamps, a rearview camera, Parktronic, and adaptive braking technology. While there is attention assist and collision prevention, you will have to pay extra for blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist. Mercedes-Benz has one of the longest lists of optional driver aids for its other models, but most of these can't be specified on the GT. Mercedes AMG have unveiled a brand-new pair of emergency vehicles for the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship that will share duties with Aston Martin's Vantage and DBX this season. Mercedes have supplied safety vehicles for F1 since 1996 and this year's duo sees a major overhaul: Their 2022 Safety Car will be the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, (replacing 2021's Mercedes-AMG GT R) featuring a punchy 730hp, adjustable suspension and a number of track-focused features. The headline statistics are a 0-62mph time of seconds and a top speed of over 200mph. The AMG Medical Car is the brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+, replacing the C 63 S AMG Estate. The four-wheel-drive Medical Car can hold three medics and their life-saving gear – 639hp at the driver's disposal for a 0-62mph time of and a top speed of 195 mph. PODCAST: Safety Car secrets with driver Bernd Maylander Bernd Maylander, who has been driving the FIA Formula 1 Official Safety Car since 2000, said: “I’ve already had the chance to test this amazing vehicle many times and I’m simply blown away by how close it is to a thoroughbred race car. “It really is a major step compared to last year’s GT R – which was already at an extremely high level. To have a workplace like this in the name of safety is a dream come true.” The Mercedes Safety Car includes new light signalling in the windscreen and, unusually, with rear-facing lights in the rear spoiler rather than a roof-mounted lightbar. It will make its debut alongside the Medical Car in the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix on March 20. As was the case in 2021, Aston Martin will supply their Vantage Safety Car and DBX Medical Car for the upcoming season. The Aston Martins will begin duties in the 2022 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park. TECH TUESDAY: The missing puzzle piece expected to fall into place during Bahrain testing The DBX Medical Car unleases nearly 550hp and 700Nm of torque, reaching a top speed of 181mph – while carrying the mandated safety equipment including medical kit and fire extinguishers. "It is a continuing source of pride for myself and the whole company to see our cars playing a crucial role in Formula 1," said Aston Martin Lagonda Chief Executive Officer Tobias Moers.
